Sir David Nicholas Memorial Lecture

The ITN 1955 Club is organising a new annual lecture about TV News – the Sir David Nicholas Memorial Lecture.

The idea behind the lecture is to remember Sir David by asking someone who is a current senior leader in the TV news industry to give a lecture about TV news – its history, current trends, and/or future.

David, who died in 2022, was the former Editor of ITN, and was at the company from 1960 to 1991. He was a hugely important figure in the history of TV news, and was one of the industry’s key pioneers and innovators.

This year, the CEO of ITN Rachel Corp has agreed to give the lecture. Rachel has had a remarkable career at ITN – starting as a news trainee, and then moving up through various roles, including Head of Home News, Editor of 5 News and Editor of ITV News.

The event is on Wednesday 21st May 2025 – at the King’s College Science Gallery lecture theatre at London Bridge.

The lecture is a really fitting way to remember David – someone who did so much to develop TV news in the UK – and the lecture proposal has been supported by David’s family.

It’s also ITN’s 70th anniversary this year – which makes it a particularly good time to launch an annual lecture about TV news.
